ึึ Description ึึ
**Important**: Since the purpose of this hike is to view the Perseid Meteor Shower, I may postpone/cancel it if is too cloudy. I will make sure to confirm a few hours in advance so make sure to check back before heading to the meeting place.
The Perseid Meteor Shower occurs every year as the Earth passes through debris left behind by the comet Swift-Tuttle. It is arguably the best meteor shower to view, not least because it happens during the Summer so it is still warm at night. If we are lucky with the weather, there is the potential to see around 50 meteors per hour.
We shall meet at the Nordschule tram stop at 10pm. From there we shall hike up to Windknollen. **Please note that the start of the hike will be through a residential area at night, so do keep your voices down until we're away from the houses.**
The hike will only take about 20-30mins and then we can find a good place to lie down, switch off our torches and other sources of light (yes, that includes your phone screens, this is very important to allow our eyes to adapt to the dark), and simply enjoy the night sky. We'll probably stay for about 60-90 minutes before heading back.
To bring:
Torch - if anyone has a red light torch, this would be especially useful as red light does not ruin our dark adapted sight in the way white light does
Something to lie on
Water and snacks
Warm clothing - even if it is a warm night, we will be on top of a hill so it will feel cooler than the city and it will be worth having an extra layer with you
